What a fun activity that encouraged the children to identify, sort, and read words that contain consonant digraphs sh, ch, the, ck, wh, and ph. Automatic recognition of these digraphs will increase the students' ability to decode words at a fluent rate.

Fundations: Magic "E" Bingo

The kindergarten kids have been working hard on mastering those tricky Magic E words! With all of this practice, why not make that hard work fun with a game of Bingo!

Math: The Missing Addend

The students practiced identifying a missing addend by using a number line.

Science: Fizzy Colors

This activity always keeps the kids both engaged and amazed! Watching the baking soda fizz and the colors mix is always a mesmerizing experience.

Journals: Once Upon a Time

This journal prompt encouraged the children to practice their writing in a fun way! We are continuing to work on sentence structure, proper letter formation, handwriting, finger spaces, sounding out words, using sight words and punctuation. We are also increasing the length of our writing to 3 sentences or more.

STEM: DIY Pinwheels

DEAR (Drop Everything & Read)

During DEAR time the kids silently engage with books from their book bins. They can choose to: read, go on a letter hunt, look for digraphs and sight words, or just look at the pictures!

This week, Roycemore students participated in an annual event hosted by the YMCA - Stand Against Racism. To prepare for the event, the students had discussions in class and created posters to share their message. Here's a quick look at a previous Stand Against Racism event where Roycemore students encouraged drivers to "honk for justice" and reminded us that "everyone should be treated equally."

Math: The Missing Addend

The students were introduced to a new math concept this week - the missing addend. An addend is a number that is added to another. The K kids were taught how to find the missing addend using a number line. We are going to continue to practice this skill in the upcoming weeks.

Fundations: Guess & Groove

The is an extremely fun and engaging phonics activity that gets the kids moving while working on handwriting and practicing long vowels with magic e.

Fundations: Write the Room

This fun literacy center is another great activity that gets the kids up and moving while they work on reading and writing skills. As students record the words on the paper they are actively working on forming letters, capitalization, and spacing. Write the Room is also good for building student vocabulary!
