The kindergarten kids had so much fun showing off their school spirit!

STEM Challenge: Coffee Filter Parachutes

This week the kids made a coffee filter parachute using a coffee filter, pipe cleaners, and a plastic cup. We then tested our designs by dropping them off the balcony! This was a great activity that encouraged the kids to explore how parachutes work.

Journals: What is your favorite animal? Why?

Math: Word Problems

We are continuing to work on word problems to improve comprehension and analysis. During our word problem practice, the children have to listen closely to understand what information is important. What is the problem asking us to do? Add? Subtract?

Fundations: Magic E & Digraphs

The kids enjoyed working on their writing skills while writing CVC words and Magic E words. We also are practicing digraphs!

D.E.A.R (Drop Everything & Read!)

This week we introduced D.E.A.R time! D.E.A.R is a time for students to "drop everything and read." During D.E.A.R the kids each have their own book bin and a monster finger. The monster finger is a great tool to use to follow along as they are reading or going on their own letter or word hunts! The kids get to choose a peaceful space in the room to quietly read or look through their books.

PE: Soccer, Hockey, Scooters & Hungry, Hungry Hippos!

Art: Silly Drawing Prompts

This week the kids were encouraged to use their creativity to draw silly pictures! Some of the drawing prompts included: a PB & J sandwich on vacation, a self-portrait using vegetables for body parts, a donut on a skateboard, and a flying hotdog!

French: Les Vetements

This week the kids were introduced to the names of different clothing including dress, pants, scarf, boots, hat, jacket, and sweater.

Recess:

Always fun to run around during recess! We are thrilled to be able to use the playground equipment at Alexander Park again!

Portraits drawn by little hands are some of the sweetest drawings, really reflecting the person, and they truly shine with personality!

Fundations: Digraphs

This week the kids learned all about the digraphs wh, th, ch, and sh. Digraphs are two letters that say one sound.

Math: Subtraction Board Game

The K kids have been loving these digital games using the interactive whiteboard. The games are played the same as you would with a traditional game board except we are able to roll the die and use the moveable cubes digitally to move around the game board. The kids loved being in teams and racing to the finish line! This week we focused on subtraction. Each child had the opportunity to create their own word story problems to tell to the class.

Journals:

If you could be in charge of the school for a day, what would you do?

Literacy Game: "I Have, Who Has?"

This week the kids were introduced to a new game! To play the game, all CVC reading cards were passed out. The student with the first card read both the “I have…” and “Who has…?” parts out loud. Then, the next student that has the card that matches the "who has" description that was read aloud read their "I have…" and “Who has…". The game is played until all cards have been read. The kids enjoyed this game and we will play different versions as the year continues!
